Helin-Mari Arder - vocals, Teet Raik - guitar, trumpet,
The concert programme “Blue” consists of songs written by Helin-Mari Arder, which were born to the poetry of Estonian authors. The singer has previously written music for the poetry of Eeva Park and Ott Arder, and the current programme also includes several songs from the poems of Jaan Kross, Viivi Luik, Airis Erme, Leelo Tungal and Ilona Laaman. Blue holds both depth and etherealness, joy and sorrow, the great murmuring sea and the tiny drops of water. All of this comes together in Helin-Mari’s work and becomes even more colourful as the music receives a new interpretation together with other musicians in the ensemble.
Helin-Mari Arder is well known to local audiences for her sunny performances, equally devoted to the music of Estonian artists, Brazilian bossa novas, jazz standards in new forms, French chansons, and much more. In recent years, she has also delved deeper into the world of original compositions, writing music for young and old listeners alike. Her “Naerulohkudega maailm” (A World Smiling with Dimples), featuring poetry by Olivia Saar, was sung by children’s choirs at the 2019 Estonian Song Festival.
Teet Raik is a guitarist, trumpeter, conductor of several big bands, and a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Teet also writes arrangements for both large and small ensembles, and composes his own music.
For decades, Ara Yaralyan has been part of the Estonian bass scene. In addition to writing and arranging music, he also teaches young jazz musicians and participates in a number of international groups. Ara’s musical role models reflect his deep affection for jazz (Brad Mehldau, Marc Johnson, and many others).
