Art is distinguished from entertainment primarily by the artist’s need to relate to the outside world through something that is not immediate reality − through their creation that is created to be left open to interpretation. That, in turn, gives the audience the opportunity to relate to the art and its creator.
Every person is free to make their choices.
A person can make their choices only within the limits of their existence, but in the big picture, a person’s choice is not only pertaining to the self, isolated, but global. Therefore, our choices mean and affect our surroundings.
A person’s choice can also to be isolated and to live in their own bubble. That, too, is a choice, but globally, in means to accept the choices that have been done for them. They might not like them afterwards.
That is exactly what George Bernhard Shaw’s quote is about:
“Take care to get what you like, or you will be forced to like what you get. “
The same goes for a famous Estonian song which says “Iga mees on oma saatuse sepp ja oma õnne valaja!“ and means that every man is the architect of his own fortune. Why would we let anyone else be the architect of our lives?
Toomas Rull’s 6th album is called Quotes. It includes music written while thinking about these quotes and thoughts. Quotes and proverbs follow us every day and many of them are relevant through times.
